Chevrolet has been building top-notch pickup trucks for decades, though the automaker’s midsize pickup truck is relatively young in comparison. It was first introduced as a compact truck for the 2003 model year before getting bumped up a segment for 2011. After taking a couple years off, the Colorado returned in 2014 and has since remained better than ever. These days, the Colorado offers its own ZR2 off-road trim level, which sits at the top of the offerings. But for those true off-road enthusiasts, you can opt for the ZR2 Bison Edition package which takes the ZR2 trim to the next level itself. With a bunch of updates coming to the model and package this year, we thought we’d highlight what’s new in the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison for you today.
“The Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2's prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivaling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available. Earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award is a testament to the Colorado’s all-encompassing excellence across various terrains and utility needs.”

The updated version of the ZR2 Bison Edition was made in partnership with the incredible American Expedition Vehicles, an incredible company specializing in high-quality aftermarket off-road parts and accessories. Often shortened to AEV, the company has done a lot in tandem with General Motors. You might’ve seen its name attached to several GMC vehicles, for example. But this year, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition was built in conjunction with AEV, and we couldn’t be more stoked about it.
Setting out to build “America’s ultimate off-road beast,” the two companies accomplished just that by adding a ton of AEV off-road enhancements and tweaks. Now, the ZR2 Bison is capable of delivering unmatched off-road performance, especially in the midsize truck segment, but they did it without sacrificing the things that make a Chevy a Chevy, such as ride quality, handling and standard safety features. Check out below for a full list of the exclusive design cues and features added to the ZR2 Bison:
In addition to these exclusive features, the ZR2 Bison is still a 2024 Chevy Colorado, so it has plenty of other standard and available content, including the following.
If you don’t want to take our word for it, or even Chevrolet’s word for it, you might be pleased to hear that all claims about the ZR2 Bison have been tested and proven by champion off-road racer Chad Hall, both through testing on the Rubicon Trail and in official competition.
